Client: Wheeldon Brothers Ltd

Site Name: Land at Horsley Road, Kilburn

Site Type: Housing

Services Provided: Biodiversity Net Gain Report, Preliminary Ecological Appraisal Report (PEA)

A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) was required due to the potential presence of protected species on the site. A Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Report was also necessary to assess whether the development can achieve the required 10% net gain, using the Statutory Biodiversity Metric in line with the Environment Act 2021.

The BNG report showed that a BNG of 11.70% for habitats, 10.03% for hedgerows, and 86.72% for watercourses can be achieved through a Habitat Management and Monitoring Plan. The BNG solution was achieved within the development site avoiding additional costs associated with purchasing biodiversity units off-site.

The Amber Valley Borough Council ecology consultee commented on the planning application, advising that the BNG solution was acceptable as well as the PEA, raising no objections, with the exception that Stage 2 Ecological Surveys would be required to support the determination of the planning application for which Elton Ecology are providing ongoing support.
