Consultant Ecologist

About The Role

Location: Castle Donington, East Midlands

Salary: £29,500 – £34,500 (dependent on skills and experience)

Contract Type: Full time, permanent, 37.5 hours per week

At Elton Ecology Ltd, we are a leading ecological consultancy dedicated to providing expert environmental solutions to planners, developers, councils and NGOs across England. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Consultant Ecologist to help drive our ecology offering forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertaking ecological surveys including UKHab and protected species surveys.
  • Producing technical reports including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal and Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA).
  • Conducting Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team.
  • Project & Client Management
  • Deliver work to technical standards and act within the CIEEM Professional Code of Conduct.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant degree in Ecology or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of ecology, legislation, and best practice guidelines in England.
  • Membership of appropriate professional body (e.g. CIEEM) or willingness to apply.
  • Experience in Biodiversity Net Gain, or keen to develop skills in this area.
  • Ability to undertake UKHab Surveys independently (holding a minimum of Level 3 FISC Certificate) and/or holding protected species licence(s).
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.
  • Eligible to work in the UK.

Ecologist

About The Role

  • Minimum 1 years’ relevant experience.

Seasonal Assistant Ecologist

About The Role

Location: Castle Donington, East Midlands / Site Based

Contract Type: Part-Time Fixed-Term Surveyors (PTFT)

Hours: 15/20/25/30 hours per week available

Duration: May – September (inclusive)

Pay: Hourly rate equivalent of £24,800 – £25,500 per year calculated as per a 37.5hr working week.

Job Overview

As a Seasonal Assistant Ecologist at Elton Ecology Ltd, you’ll play a vital role in our team, assisting with a variety of tasks, from protected species and habitat surveys to report drafting and data analysis. You’ll receive comprehensive training and mentoring from senior team members to develop your skills and expertise in ecological consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with protected species and habitat surveys.
  • Contribute to draft reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Ecological Impact Assessments.
  • Analyse and process survey data, including data collected via data collection apps, bat echolocation sound files and infrared camera video data.
  • Collaborate with team members and work independently as required.
  • Maintain a professional attitude towards work and uphold company standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant degree.
  • Basic understanding of ecological consultancy (no prior experience necessary).
  • Interest in British wildlife and field surveys.
  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently.
  • Professional attitude towards work.
  • Ability to commute to our Castle Donington office.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.
  • Eligible to work in the UK.
