Site Name: Pippin Heath, Kings Newton Lane, Derby, DE73 8DD

Site Type: Housing

Services Provided: Landscape and Biodiversity Enhancement Plan (LBEP)

To facilitate the progression of the development, the submission of a Landscape and Biodiversity Enhancement Plan (LBEP) was required by Elton Ecology to ensure the delivery of measurable benefits to local biodiversity.

The LEMP was also required to include a summary of ecologically beneficial landscaping. The Landscape and Biodiversity Enhancement Plan recommendations included the installation of a pole-mounted barn owl box in the southern area of the site, positioned to face open grassland and away from prevailing winds and artificial light sources. Additionally, two integrated swift boxes were recommended to be installed on the building’s northwest elevation, alongside one integrated bat box on the southwest elevation of the building.

The Derbyshire Wildlife Trust ecology consultee commented on the planning application, advising that our Landscape and Biodiversity Enhancement Plan outlined the implementation of several features which included an owl nest box, bird nest boxes and an integrated bat box. The report Elton Ecology provided was deemed acceptable, raising no objections and allowing the condition to be discharged, meaning the development would not be delayed due to Ecological matters.

Planning consent was secured on first submission as the Local Planning Authority granted discharge of the planning condition.
