Site Type: Housing

Due to the potential of protected habitats and species being on-site, a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal was required to identify ecological constraints and guide mitigation. An Arboricultural Impact Assessment and Arboricultural Method Statement were also needed to support planning and ensure tree protection to allow the development to continue.

A total of 23 trees, 2 hedges, and 9 tree groups were surveyed. Eleven trees and three groups were of moderate quality; seven trees, five groups, and two hedges were of low quality; and five trees and one group were unsuitable for retention. While no trees required removal for the development, four poor-condition trees were recommended to be removed, with losses recommended to be mitigated through replacement planting.

Elton Ecology’s PEA outlined several recommendations to be followed during development, including implementing precautionary methods to protect wildlife; conducting a pre-commencement badger survey; and managing vegetation through removal under Ecological Clerk of Works supervision in line with a Precautionary Working Method Statement.

The ecology consultee on the planning application suggested that the recommendations by Elton Ecology which were included in the AIA and PEA were acceptable and had no objections. With the approval from the ecology consultee on the suggestions made it allowed the development to proceed in a timely manner with the appropriate measures in place.

Planning consent was secured as the Local Planning Authority granted planning permission with conditions.
