Elton Ecology were requested to carry out a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) to inform a full planning application for a replacement dwelling within the Staffordshire Moorlands District Council local authority area. The PEA included a Desk Study, Extended Phase 1 Habitat survey, and Preliminary Bat Roost Assessment survey.

The Desk Study included a study of online resources for designated sites of nature conservation, and a data consultation with Staffordshire Ecological Record (SER) for records of any protected species at the site and surrounding area.

During the Phase 1 Habitat Survey, a botanical species list was compiled for the site and habitats present categorised. The Phase 1 survey was extended to consider protected/ notable species and included a Preliminary Bat Roost Assessment (PBRA) with reference to best practice guidelines (BCT, 2016).

An Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) report was subsequently issued to the client, with no additional ecology work required.
